Cycle Against Cancer – Iron House Fitness, Old Saybrook

The 2016 Cycle Against Cancer was held on March 19, 2016 from 7:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Iron House Fitness. Over 140 spinners joined us that day, united by their desire to help cancer patients in CT, and together, they raised over $62,000! The leadership team at Iron House was fantastic – Joe Fay, Kati Papoosha, and Kim Knapp helped us put together an awesome event that was a great workout for a terrific cause.

At 9:00 AM, we heard a moving thank you from Kara Levitsky, the mother of our little Ambassador, 5 year-old Brynn, who is fighting leukemia for the third time. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house as Kara, visibly moved, thanked everyone for their support from the bottom of her heart. Executive Director, Jane Ellis, congratulated our top fundraisers for their incredible efforts and dedication to helping people who are fighting cancer. Mike Souza was named top fundraiser, Timothy Hemhauser came in second place followed by Stacey Doyle in third place – Congratulations and huge thank yous to everyone for their incredible leadership! Jane Ellis also named our Top Team as Funkin’ Ride, led by Heather Theriault, and our Top Company Team as Pasta Vita, led by Ghiomara Morales. These two incredible teams were crucial to the success of the 2016 Cycle Against Cancer.

After our short round of speeches, it was back to spinning and one after the other, our amazing instructors led classes that were both challenging and fun and got the blood pumping! Kicking off the festivities was Tony Savinelli, who led an invigorating class that grooved, followed by our other fantastic instructors – Krista Danko, Kati Papoosha, Mike Souza, Nichole Boucino, Heather Theriault, Mark Fullerton, Steve Dare, Breck Lindley, and Lisa Simiola, who all crushed it! All day long, the sounds of laughter and celebration filled the air as our instructors challenged our spinners to push themselves just a little farther.

It was truly amazing to see the whole community come together with such good will and great spirit to help CT cancer patients in need. On behalf of our Steering Committee, we want to issue a huge thank you to all of our sponsors, team captains, and spinners – we could not carry out our mission without you. Thank you for all that you do to help cancer patients in Connecticut and we will SEE YOU NEXT YEAR! J
